Artist’s statement

The majority of Andrea's work focuses on women's figurative and portrait imagery as reactions to politics, commercialism, and societal standards. Andrea questions women's expected roles and celebrates female diversity, uniqueness and imperfection.
Andrea's artwork combines realism with abstract and includes self-portraits, mannequins, and images from fashion magazine advertisements, which may be cut and reconfigured, or photographed and modified. Typically she uses mixed media with acrylic, charcoal, and add in pastel, nail polish or artist-grade spray-paint. In 2020 (during COVID quarantine) she also began experimenting with collage techniques, reaching to current magazines, newspapers and her own photography. Today she pulls from this wider media palette to encourage questions and dialog from viewers.
