Artist’s statement

"My work focuses on women's figurative and portrait imagery related to politics, commercialism, and societal standards.

After working for many years in the beauty industry, I’ve gained a lot of insight into connecting consumers’ perception and market products. There are so many layers to this — from personal to cultural, and I explore this in my paintings. I question women's expected roles and celebrate female diversity, uniqueness and imperfection.”

Andrea's artwork combines realism with abstract and many times includes self-portraits or inspired by images from fashion magazine advertisements, which may be cut and reconfigured, or photographed and modified. Typically she uses mixed media with acrylic, charcoal. Unconventional materials like nail polish or make up powders are sometimes included. More recently Andrea includes collage techniques. Reaching to current magazines, newspapers and her own photography, she pulls from this wider media palette to encourage questions and dialog from viewers.
